My name is Rick Schwab. I moved to NYC after graduating art school in 1976. By 1978 I was a professional photo retoucher and photographer working in advertising. To make extra money,I began freelancing as a photographer of fine art.
In 1983, I started photographing art made by Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat, among many others. Often going to their studios to shoot. In March of 1984, while photographing some of Jean Michel’s paintings, Jean Michel asked me to take a few portraits of him for his own personal use.
He moved around the work while striking poses, art directing every shot. I had never seen him do that before. Afterwards,I gave him several prints of two of the shots and put the negatives away.
Now that I am retiring from commercial photography, I am offering these images for collectors. Each archival print is made and signed by me on the back. I am offering 3 sizes of each photo: 8.5 x 11 ; 11 x 14 and 16 x 20in. All photos are carefully shipped in a box.
